Great Power Supply!!

Reviewer: LOTR Fan,
I got this Corsair PSU to replace the 250-watt Bestec one that came in my Compaq Presario SR5707-C. It powers my system (including the GeForce 9600 GSO I added) beautifully, runs cool and quiet, has a power switch, and has long cables and plenty of cable ties (plus a "Powered by Corsair" sticker to put on your computer!). I've had my system running almost nonstop for 2 weeks with this new PSU and I've had no problems.

I highly recommend this PSU. Just be aware that the cables are long, so there'll be some crowding if you put it into a standard sized, pre-built computer along with a big video card.

Nice 400W PSU, great design, love it... low-budget medium gaming computer

This is the Corsair 400W PSU with 3 year warranty (the higher end Corsair PSUs {eg 700W+} come with 5 year warranty, but I think 3 years is pretty good)

Corsair is a good brand which stands behind the stuff they sell. One look at this PSU, you'd admire the engineering behind in (5+ pounds for a 400W which means solid metal/heatsink/case... 120mm fan that cools the PSU... auto-voltage detection which means no need to flip that red switch an the back)

SINGLE 30amp 12V rail means you don't have to balance power over multiple rails... this is really good as you pretty much have to worry about two numbers (400W, 30amp). 80 plus efficiency is always good to save on the electricity bill.

6SATA, 6MOLEX, 2 Floppy, 1 ATX 20+4, 1 4/8pin adapter, 1 PCIe... wish there were 2 PCIe, but this is a 400W PSU, not a 500W.... best price for a low/medium build where you don't need to use SLI/Crossfire... LOOOOONG Sleeved cables, a plus, and they give you zipties for cable management

I haven't tested fully how the PSU runs under load(just ordered the parts for my computer including this PSU, so I will have a chance to test this and edit this review when the parts come in a week, but the paperclip trick {short the green wire with any black wire} turns the PSU on, so it's definitely not DOA... fan's pretty quiet on low but also pumps quite a lot of air out)

My Specs: this PSU, AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE(hopefully unlockable, but definitely can be overclocked from 3.1ghz to 3.5ghz on air), MSI 785G-E65 mATX, 2x2GB DDR3 DIMM, a 1TB hdd that I have sitting around, a cheap Apex mATX case I bought a year ago

plus an (not yet bought, but planning to)ATI 4670 1GB

I was really impressed with the quality that Corsair manufactured this PS. Nice connections and good length. The PS is quite and has been running great.

On a side note at the time I purchased this PS there was a $10 manufacture mail in rebate. I sent the paperwork in and received a rebate check in about 5 weeks.
Get the best!

I upgraded my desktop- from 1GB to 2GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6200 video card, 500GB 7200 rpm Seagate hdd, Hauppauge 1600 digital HD TV card, in an older 2004 pentium 2.4 ghz hyperthread intel motherboard...installed the Windows 7 operating system and dual LCD screens...little did I know this "change" was about to FRY my old power supply...OOPS.

Installing the Corsair400CX was a breeze!...15 minutes later, I was in business...no more crashes, semi-reponsive power button, blue screens, hard drive not spinning, memory error messages, etc. A dying power supply was definitely worse in my case because of all the ways it was causing my computer to malfunction...the power supply is an important foundational building block within a PC...or so I learned...LOL!

Highly efficient, high quality electronics, and 30 amp 12 volt rail mean no load balancing, just make sure your total load falls safely in range. Hardware secrets has a great review and goes as far to say that after load testing, this power supply could have been given perhaps an even higher wattage rating...so you know it's "heavy duty" to use the old school term...LOL! Remember this- there is just no substitute for good clean power!
Finally a quiet Power Supply!!!!

I've had at least one desktop computer in my home since my first Apple II in 1988, so, I've had to replace a half-dozen of these over the years. I've replaced some simply because the old ones were too loud. This is the quietest power supply I've ever bought. This unit has more than sufficient wattage for most normal desktop computers. If you have a high-heat-generating gamer-type computer, you might need more wattage.

I read copious reviews, including PC magazine reviews, and Corsair consistently ranks high in reliability. My power supply before this one was causing thermal shutdowns on my computer, so, I bought this one. It was simple to install, just 4 screws, and, the rest are plug-ins.

A word of caution for the inexperienced installer: When you remove the screws to the old unit, lift the unit out of the computer without disconnecting any of the plug-ins. Install the new unit, replacing the 4 screws. Then, one plug at a time, disconnect the old and plug in the new. There are more plugs in the power unit, and more receptacles in the computer than you will use because extras are wired in to account for the possiblilty of installing additional hardware: drives, cards, etc.
