| I bought this Radeon 5770 to replace an aging Nvidia 8800GT 512mb. It is much faster in the two games I tried, Left 4 Dead 2 and Mass Effect 2 at 1920x1200 res with full detail. The fan on the single-slot 8800GT was quite loud so the quiet fan on Radeon 5770 was a welcome addition (btw, this is the newer revision "egg-shaped" cooler). My PC dual-purposes as a gaming and HTPC, so HDMI and on-board audio was a must. While ATI's Catalyst Control Center is nowhere near as intuitive as the Nvidia counter-part, I was able to get everything setup how I wanted using a 42" Panasonic Viera plasma tv (hdmi), and a 24" Soyo monitor (dvi). I did find out that I could not plug in a 3rd monitor (2 DVI, 1 HDMI) unless I used the DisplayPort connection. Bummer. No accessories are included, but I didn't need them anyway. Great bang-for-the-buck card. |
Great video card for the price

| I also believe that Amazon had the incorrect image for this card when I ordered it. However, the model number was correct and I should have looked closer. It doesn't really matter as it does appear the only difference between the 577X and 577A is the type of cooler installed and no 3x Crossfire support(The 577A does look nicer though). The card installed very easily and I had no issue getting it working under Windows 7. I would make sure you download and use the latest version of drivers from ATI's website and not use the included CD. I upgraded from an Nvidia 8800 GTS and the increase in performance was significant. My Windows 7 Experience score for graphics went from 6.4 to 7.3 and I have been able to play many games at a lot higher settings than on my 8800. It isn't quite as fast as I was hoping, but I didn't want to pay the price for a 5850 or 5870 right now. So for the price I got a big jump in performance and am very happy with my purchase. Would recommend this product if you are looking for a "best bang for your buck" kind of deal versus hard core gaming performance. |
Maybe the best bang for your buck...

Searching for a new video card can be a daunting process, but I didn't need to search any further after finding the XFX HD 5770 PCIe video card.
When looking to upgrade video cards for my wife's Dell, I was limited by the fact that the machine only has a single six-pin video card power plug. Most of the newer and more powerful cards require multiple power connections to run - this 5770 did not. So not only did I get a card that met my power and space requirements, I got a DirectX 11 compatible card with stellar performance. For the money, I am not sure that there is a better card out there - I definitely did not see a comparable card with an nVidia chip that was in this price point with this performance.
The bundle with the card is great - XFX has a great reputation in the industry and I have been pleased with their products in the past. Overall, this might be one of the best video card purchases I've made - the last time I was this impressed with a video card was when I got my first 3dfx Voodoo 3 (if you owned one of those, you know what I am talking about!). |
Great Video Card

Ordered on 4th Feb with amazon free Super Saver Shipping, it left on the 6th feb from 'Seller facility', arrived 8th feb in Lexington KY and then finally to Miami on the 10th feb. I got it in Trinidad 2 days later via a skybox.
It runs nfs shift, COD 5, COD 6, at 1920x1080 with AA 2x on and full effects with no choking and before overclocking. The stock clock is 850mhz and the included ATI control center utility tests the highest stable speed for you. I think mines went up to 925 mhz but I still have it on 850 since I am not seeing a difference at the higher clock. The utility also gives you manual control of the gpu fan. The reported temp reaches 70 degrees celcius while gaming with the fan on auto so when I remember I put the fan to about 70%. At that speed I can hear it running and it does not get that loud on auto. I made a profile in the utility with the higher fan speed and switch to it when gaming. I do not think the shape of the plastic cover would help with the heat dissipation, I have a 120mm fan on the back of my case and a 120mm in the power supply and there is a vent on the side door next to the video card also so air flow is not a problem. In fact the temp is the same with or without the side door on.
I had a problem of the screen showing black but the lcd staying on when the lcd was supposed to go to sleep when you leave the pc alone. That was using catalyst 10.1 drivers and it was fixed with 10.2.
I absolutely recommend this card. I bought it for $170 with free shipping but it is now $160 with free shipping so an even better deal. It comes with a 4 pin molex to 6 pin PCI-E power adapter and a DVI to VGA adapter. There is also a Do Not Disturb door hanger (pic uploaded), nice idea.

This card is amazing. I bought an HP computer a few weeks ago that has a fast processor and 8 gigs of ram. The graphics, however, were integrated and sucked. After playing a few games on it, I found that I could only play games on low-quality graphic settings. This encouraged me to buy a graphics card.
After doing some research I bought this card. I received the card earlier today, installing it was fairly easy.
To put things in perspective, last night I was playing StarCraft 2 on 'Low' settings, now the recommended settings are 'Ultra'!! It is playing flawlessly with these settings! My jaw literally dropped when I saw how much of a difference this card made. My windows index score for graphic changed from 4.4 to 7.4, and gaming graphics score changed from 5.4 to 7.4 (7.9 is the highest).
Mind you, I have never even thought of buying and installing a graphics card, I always pictured geek squad or a friend doing it for me. But after watching some instructional YouTube videos, it seemed like an easy process, which it was.
If you want to upgrade your gaming graphics, and this card fits your budget, then buy it! I honestly think paying more for a card would be pointless.
However, my screen resolution is 1680 x 1050 (21 inches). If my screen was bigger with a higher resolution, then I would probably have to buy a more expensive card if I wanted 'Ultra' settings. Also, make sure you have at least a 500W power supply (450 is recommended on the box). I bought a 500W OCZ modXstream power supply from amazon and it is working fine. |
